What a Waste of $55.50!

Updated: Jul 17, 2019

I decided to take the day off and take my two girls to Victoria Gardens in New York City this week. I had been hearing about it for a long time and thought it would be the perfect family activity. I went with a friend and her two children.

It was my first time there in a long time so I really didn't remember it. I chose the unlimited ride package thinking that was the best money option: $6.50 admission and $12.00 unlimited rides - per person even though my little girl, Hannah, was only 2 1/2 years old! Thank goodness I packed my own lunch. Who knows what that would have cost as well? When we got there, it must have been "camp day" because the park was overloaded with camp kids. Not a problem except we could not get on any ride without at least a 1/2 hour wait.

Then, my oldest daughter, Sophie, was overwhelmed and decided she didn't really want to go on many rides. Hannah, on the other hand, wanted to try every ride but I couldn't leave Sophie, so we didn't really go on many rides. The rides were blaring loud music with beeps and horns which was giving me a headache.

After two hours, we left and walked to Sheep's Meadow in Central Park and all the kids played gleefully happily running around the grass and rocks. The birds were chirping, my friend and I finally got to talk and the kids were having a blast.

It just goes to show you that you don't need to spend $55.50 to have a wonderful summer day! I need to practice what I preach a little more about my money habits.
